Prodpod is a browser-based collaborative productivity platform designed for students and remote workers. It combines real-time shared focus rooms, Pomodoro and stopwatch timers, optional webcam accountability, lofi music and ambient sounds, synchronised YouTube playback, and subject-tagged session tracking in a single free web application.
Overview
Prodpod was created to address the accountability gap in solo productivity tools. Most Pomodoro timers and focus apps are used alone: the timer runs, but there is no social cost to stopping early or never starting. Prodpod replicates the social dynamics of a university library or café — where the visible presence of other working people makes it harder to disengage — in a virtual environment accessible from any browser.
Core Features
Collaborative Focus Rooms
Users create or join a named room. Inside the room, every member's current timer status and subject tag is visible in real time. Rooms are persistent; members can join and leave freely. Public rooms are open to any Prodpod user. Private rooms are invite-only.
Pomodoro Timer & Stopwatch
The Pomodoro timer uses 25-minute focus blocks, 5-minute short breaks, and 15-minute long breaks; all durations are customisable. Stopwatch mode supports open-ended sessions. Completed sessions are automatically logged to the user's activity history.
Webcam Accountability
An optional live video feed allows room members to see each other while working. No recording or video storage occurs. Webcam use activates the social facilitation effect (Zajonc, 1965), improving performance on practised tasks in the presence of others.
Lofi Music and Ambient Sounds
Prodpod includes a built-in lofi music player with curated stations and an ambient sound library featuring rain, café background noise, white noise, forest sounds, and fireplace crackling. Each sound has an independent volume slider. A master volume control and mute toggle are accessible from the room dock.
YouTube Together
Room members can add a YouTube URL to play in sync for all participants. Pausing and playing reflects across all members. Custom YouTube links are available on the Scholar plan.
Activity and Progress Tracking
Every completed session is logged with subject tag, duration, and date. The dashboard displays daily, weekly, and all-time statistics. A leaderboard allows users to compare study hours and streaks with friends. The free plan retains 7 days of history; the Scholar plan retains unlimited history.
Task Management
An inline to-do list is accessible within each session. Tasks persist across sessions. The free plan supports up to 10 active tasks; the Scholar plan is unlimited.
Pricing
Prodpod offers a Free plan with no credit card required and no time limit, and a Scholar plan at £2.50 per month billed annually (£5/month billed monthly).
The Free plan includes collaborative rooms, the Pomodoro timer, basic audio, 7 days of session history, up to 10 active tasks, and one countdown timer. The Scholar plan adds private rooms, premium sounds, unlimited history and analytics, unlimited tasks, unlimited countdowns, custom background uploads, and custom YouTube links.
Research basis
Prodpod's core mechanic — working in the visible presence of others — is supported by several findings in psychology and behavioural science:
Social facilitation (Zajonc, 1965): the presence of others improves performance on practised or well-learned tasks.
Body doubling: using another person's physical or virtual presence as an attention anchor — widely recommended for ADHD management.
The library effect: ambient human presence in a shared workspace reduces mind-wandering and increases time-on-task.
Social commitment: meeting a specific person in a room dramatically increases follow-through versus solo intentions.
Comparison with other tools
Prodpod is most commonly compared to the following tools:
Pomofocus — a solo browser-based Pomodoro timer with no rooms, audio, or tracking. Prodpod adds the social and audio layers Pomofocus lacks.
StudyStream — a passive YouTube live stream of people studying. Prodpod is interactive: users are in a room with specific people, with their own synchronised timer.
Focusmate — scheduled 50-minute video sessions with a random accountability partner. Prodpod requires no scheduling; users open rooms on demand with their own friends.
Forest — a phone-lock gamification timer with no web rooms or social features. Prodpod is browser-based and adds the collaborative layer Forest lacks.
Detailed comparisons are available in the Prodpod blog.
